Comrades,
I have been reading about society in the “Interwar Years”, 1918-1939, best covered for the U.K. by Robert Graves and Alan Hodge in their book “The Long Week-End: A Social History of Great Britain 1918-1939”. (The Long Week-End: A Social History of Great Britain 1918-1939 by Robert Graves and Alan Hodge (Paperback - Apr. 2001) (3) )
At the moment I am reading D, J. Taylor’s more recent (2007) “Bright Young People: The Lost Generation of London’s Jazz Age”. (Bright Young People: The Lost Generation of London's Jazz Age by D. J. Taylor (8))
Extensive reviews of both are available on the Net. Two similar books follow:
Children of the Sun: A Narrative of Decadence in England After 1918 by Martin Burgess Green (3)
Our Age: English Intellectuals Between the World Wars : A Group Portrait by Baron Noel Gilroy Annan Annan (1)
NB - a third book was recommended to me but I have not been able to obtain a copy: Cambridge between two wars by T. E. B. Howarth
In addition to books and articles by and about PGW (particularly Bolton and Wodehouse and Kern: The Men Who Made Musical Comedy by Lee Davis (2)), I can recommend the following:
